In the story text, Sam mentions that they can't go to Ten of Diamonds first. The reason is because all paths leading out from the Ten of Diamonds have a dead-end.
Hint 2:
Remember, you only need to go through each card once (even if they are duplicate cards found within the maze).
Hint 3:
Try starting from the END of the maze and working your way to the START.
Hint 4:
The first three cards you'll come across if you head out from the START are: Three of Diamonds, Queen of Diamonds, Eight of Diamonds.
